October for Stacy and Jim usually meant Alpena and lighthouses. We decided to keep the lighthouse tradition, but find a new place to visit. One of the areas we had wanted to see the year before was Cheboygan. We had run out of time during our wedding week-end, so the main purpose for our 1st anniversary was to find lighthouses in Cheboygan. We stayed in Indian River, about 20 miles away. Both of these lighthouses are located on Lake Huron. There was a third area at the Cheboygan State Park that had Old Cheboygan Lighthouse Ruins. We did not venture the path for that one but plan to when we stay at the State Park.
Of course, how could we be right near Mackinaw City and not visit my . I never tire of looking at the water or the bridge from that park. A new item to note: Old Mackinac Point is near the site of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Museum. The museum is being built where the former car ferry dock is located. Jim and some of my other family members remember when you had to go on the ferry because the bridge was not finished.
