What a beautiful place to start a wedding week-end! As with the Lighthouse Festival from 1996, we began our own tour, still on Lake Huron, but this time in Tawas City to the Tawas Point State Park. The date, October 11, 1997, shined with all the fall colors. This lighthouse turned out to have an open tower, too. I climbed to the top and waved down to Jim. He video taped the area, including me waving down. We spent some time by the water on the boardwalk, near the outdoor pavillion. It was a little to cool for hanging out on the beach, but so pretty that it was difficult to leave.
Tawas City's beauty didn't keep us from continuing, though. We were back in Alpena at the 2nd Annual Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival. This week-end meant something different cause we were getting married (oh, my gosh!) the next morning. However, unlike the year before in Alpena, this time we ventured to find the Alpena lighthouse. It is across Thunder Bay, but close enough to get some photos. Alpena is also where we met up with Shari and Doug, who joined us on our wedding day.
Yes, you know it is a favorite when it is mentioned more than once. This was Shari and Doug's first visit to the area together, and they both found it quite fascinating! To read more see This is my .
Of course, Round Island is what you see on the ferry trip to Mackinac Island. One day there might be a way to visit it up close. So, when you are traveling to Mackinac Island on one of the ferries, if you see the Round Island Lighthouse than you know you are almost there. When we saw it, we were officially two married couples. The date: October 12, 1997.
